How many Israeli high-tech professionals do you think live in NYC? I have no idea but here’s a telling fact – within 6 months of creating NY Israel Tech, over 650 members have joined up by word of mouth only.
Last week over 200 of us met at our new home; NYU’s Stern School of Business for a great round of startup demos and networking. The startups were Scopings, Boxee, Parentricity and a visting Uri Shinar from Aniboom in Israel. Event photos here. Boxee was the crowd favorite (again) but all of the demos were very impressive. Israeli’s are coming in droves to NYC to open shop and really starting to make waves with quality companies. If you’re interested in joining our group, hop over to www.nyisrael.org.

Yaron- I’m really fascinated by the growth of NY Israel Tech. I currently live in Milwaukee (originally from San Diego) and am currently working on growing the startup/tech community here. I cofounded a site that spotlights startups (http://actionstalk) with someone of a focus on Milwaukee.
I’m curious if you think this group has been successful because of the Israeli community, the tech community, or the sheer size of NYC?
I’d love to chat sometime if your interested. Hope to talk to you soon.

Hi Ryan,
I think this group and other professional groups in NYC have been growingly like crazy because people have a need to get out from behind our screens and meet up with fellow humans. There’s no replacement for such contact with folks that share common interests and goals. As the web continually facilitates our ability to socialize online in real-time, we need to get out more and make things happen face to face. Israeli hi-tech professionals outside of Israel in particular gravitate to one another when given the occasion to do so.
Good luck with your group in Milwaukee!
Yaron
